Work Experience

Sports, community and arts writer for the Half Moon Bay Review (2019 — Present)

  • Published and researched a variety of weekly features on sports, community and arts events in Half Moon Bay and surrounding coastside towns. 

  • Covered local high school games on deadline, including football, basketball, soccer and wrestling. I also shot photos to run alongside the copy.  

  • Collaborated with my editor and staff photographer to design monthly magazine features with an emphasis on captivating visuals and human interest stories. 

Sports Desk Writer at The Daily Emerald (2017 — Present)

  • Wrote weekly feature stories for the Emerald's paper and website covering football, cross-country, basketball, softball, and track & field.

  • Pitched cover stories for the newspaper's front page. Published feature stories Duck Season magazine for basketball, softball, and track.

  • Published game stories for basketball, softball and baseball games, which involved live-tweeting updates and submitting stories on deadline.

Communication Intern for Charity Bounce (June — August 2018)

  • Wrote and edited case studies for the Hoop Dreams program, which demonstrated how Charity Bounce was helping challenged applicants acquire stable employment.

  • Scheduled and planned social media posts, including editing photos, creating new brand message strategies and took photos at basketball programs around Sydney.

  • Interviewed professional involved in the non-profit basketball program about how Charity Bounce was impacting lives in the community, and published articles on the website.

Sports Writer for FishDuck.com, Eugene, OR (2015 — 17)

  • Wrote recruiting update articles for football and men’s basketball every other week. One story was published on Bleacher Report and another on Track and Field News.

  • Strategized with editors and writers to create insightful and entertaining articles for Duck fans to learn and enjoy.

  • Helped maintain the website’s status in the top 1 percent of hits per visit in the world, with roughly 40,000 visitors each month. One of my articles about basketball reached over 6,000 views in a month.

  • Sea State summer abroad program for two weeks in Spain and Portugal for the summer of 2017 with an emphasis on surf journalism. We had daily readings assignments as well as a final 2,000-word essay on the differences of surf culture between the United States and Portugal.
